Our Place – Driving Policy Innovation

Philanthropy has the potential to provide long-term capital that can drive innovation in government policy. In 2010, philanthropist Julius Colman entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Victorian Government to trial a new place-based approach at Doveton College in Melbourne.

Place-Based Resilience during COVID-19: Greater Shepparton Lighthouse

Greater Shepparton Lighthouse is a collective impact, place-based initiative in Shepparton in northern Victoria. Created in 2014, the initiative involves 50 local leaders in decision-making and has the support of more than 450 volunteers and 100 plus partnerships.

Family-owned Logan business, Clarks Logan City Bus Service renamed their bus the ‘Kindy Express’ and donned hats and badges to give Logan kids the chance to learn more about their local kindies by jumping onboard a free community bus tour.

Nawarddeken Academy students, teachers, rangers and elders came together to reconnect with Country and connect Bininj (Indigenous) science and balanda (non-Indigenous) science on their annual camp – this year to Barradji.

Early Years Toolbox

Dusseldorp Forum partnered with Our Place and Early Start (University of Wollongong) to develop tools for Early Learning educators to measure children’s cognitive, self-regulatory, language, numeracy and social development.

Place-Based Resilience during COVID-19: Warddeken Land Management

The arrival of COVID-19 in Australia posed a serious risk for families in West Arnhem Land. Within a short period of time, all West Arnhem communities became closed to all non-essential travel.

Maranguka is a key gateway, both for community members and for service providers. Maranguka was identified by the Local Emergency Management Committee as the key communication pathway to the Bourke Aboriginal community and have been invited to all key NSW Health meetings.

Warddeken Land Management and the Kabulwarnamyo community’s proactive response to the pandemic has protecting elders while learning for children at Nawarddeken Academy and essential fire and land management work of the Warddeken Rangers continues to provide stability for families.

ChangeFest 2019

ChangeFest 2019 was held over four days in November at the Kimberwalli Centre in the community of Mt Druitt in Western Sydney. This is the second year that over 600 people and organisations working in collaborative initiatives from across the Australia gathered.

Platform C launches to tackle challenging social issues across Australian communities

Platform C is launched by Collaboration for Impact in partnership with the Australian Government Department of Social Services, the Paul Ramsay Foundation, Dusseldorp Forum, The Australian Centre for Social Innovation and Clear Horizon.

Tjerk (Jack) Dusseldorp

Tjerk Dusseldorp’s early experiences as a young man in the United States drew him to his life’s work in the not-for-profit sector. Tjerk, also known as Jack, worked as a documentary filmmaker in America in the 1960s against the political backdrop of the Vietnam War. Imbued with a desire to address social injustice, Tjerk returned to Sydney with his young family taking up the role of the first Executive Director of the Evatt Foundation.

Festival of Change 2019

In May 2017 Dusseldorp Forum began a collaborative, three-year process called the ‘Festival of Change’. It started with four community-based initiatives coming together to distil what works and why, share evidence and resources.
