The Social Outfit

The Social Outfit is a new design school and retail store in Sydney’s inner West providing education, training and employment opportunities for young people from new migrant and refugee communities.

The program, which encourages a broad view of learning, offers training in all aspects of its operations in a culturally supportive work environment, while providing flexible learning choices to young people who are marginalised and disengaged from education.

The model, which is a combination of social enterprise and community development, is based on a similar and successful Melbourne based initiative, The Social Studio, which has been operating since 2009.

We’re committed to best practice in social enterprise, creative learning, and community development for new migrant and refugee communities. We want to be a catalyst for real and sustained social change, both in the lives of the young people and the greater community.
